grandpas and eyeballs and beaches

Parker definitely has a mind of his own, and he is definitely getting really good at speaking it. I had some flour out, making dinner, and he reh-heh-heh-hehlley wanted to have some. We kept telling him no, but the mister persisted. So we gave him some flour.
'Twasn't a fan.
He lets us know when he would like to visit the park with an incessant, "pawk! pawk! pawk!"

OK, I kinda have to take full responsibility for this one. Ever since we moved here and I visited Trader Joe's for the first time, I've been eyeing these little shopping carts, excited for the day when I'd have a toddler big enough to push one of those babies around. Pushing strollers or anything like unto it is about the best day in his life ever, hands down. The only problem is, he has a mind of his own--go figure! He loooooved pushing the thing around, but as soon as I'd try to steer him where I wanted him to go, or away from ramming people's shins, or in the opposite direction of the fragile food displays, it wasn't the prettiest site you ever did see. It was worth seeing him have the time of his life though. Once was enough for at least a couple of years.
So this one time I got an exfoliating bead stuck in my eyelid all day, so that every time I blinked, it scraped my eyeball all day at work. It felt really nice.
By the end of the day, I couldn't take it any more, so Steve and I found someone to watch Parker and he took me into the school. It was fun to see him in action, all doctor-like. He numbed my eye with some anesthetic eye drops, which are about the best thing I've ever partaken of. Then he flipped my eyelid inside out with this barbaric instrument and couldn't see anything. So he said it was probably a little bleb that had formed as a reaction to the majority of stuff I had gotten in my eye that morning. But he thought he'd try something else just to make sure: he put some dye in my eye, then used the slit lamp to look, and sure enough, he found a teeny tiny little bead stuck on my eyelid! He pulled it off, and it tiny little gush of blood oozed out from where it was stuck, and ta-dah! My super hero!
My eyelid and general periorbital area were pretty swollen for the following 24 hours. I asked him if that was normal, and he said no....I told him he doesn't live with his patients, so he doesn't usually see them 24 hours after using that thing all up in their eye. It was probably good for him to see the aftermath so he could warn patients now!
Freaky, right? And excuse my eyebrows....bleh.
My friend, Aubrey, had a birthday coming up and her husband, Brandon basically asked me to throw her a surprise party. So surprise party we did! She's one of the girls on the food blog with me, so we had to do the dessert right! I did a coconut pound cake with salted caramel sauce and strawberries, then a Texas sheet cake. It was all so delish!
We had about 30 peeps in our tiny little apartment, it was super awesome!
Lots of car-driving and 'vroom vroom vroom' -ing going on in here.
Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Have I mentioned we love the beach?
Our sis-in-law, Katie came out for a girls' weekend down in San Clemente, so we met up with her (and her girlfriends) for breakfast one morning. It was great to see her and her little prego belly and catch up! Her girlfriends were so nice too, and I must admit, I was kinda jealous of the carefree weekend she was having! So glad you're in the family!
'Bud-oooon!' Balloons make shopping sooooo much easier! That is, if you don't mind dodging the occasional balloon to the face.
Geri, Tuckers, Steph W., Mariah, Carlsons and I all met up at the beach, and with the husbands there, Geri, Rachelle and I decided we had to get in the water! The water was great, and we got really awesome at diving into the waves and not getting sucked back in!
Seriously, now? Does it get any better than this?
 Probably when this happens....
Every little boy (and Dad) needs a picture of this, right?
Two weeks ago, my Grandpa passed away. He's had Parkinson's for several years, and his decline has been slow, but after a fall toward the beginning of the year, he just hasn't been the same. He was ready to go. He was 87 and had led an amazing life. That day was hard for me, but as long as I didn't think about it, I was OK. This wasn't the most recent picture I had with him, but it was my most recent where  I felt like he looked almost as happy and sparkly as the Grandpa I really knew.
That evening, as I was driving to the church for our YW activity, I saw this beautiful sunset. My thoughts immediately drifted toward him, and made me smile through some happy tears.
Happy Mother's Day to me! The day before, I worked all day and came home to an incredibly clean house, a babysitter lined up, and a Parker being fed dinner.
It was amazing!!! All I had to do was change my clothes and we were out the door! We went out to a nice, (half-free) dinner at Bucca di Beppo because of nurse's week and got to take home the leftovers for an equally as nice Mother's Day dinner that neither one of us had to cook. Parker came home with a cute hand-printed card for me, and we got to FaceTime with our families. Wonderful weekend!
We got to talk to Michael, my brother who's on his mission 30 minutes south of us in Laguna Nigel. I miss my family, and am so excited to get back down to Texas with everyone!
And a Happy Mother's Day to my own momma and mother-in-law! Love you both!

We have launched our new website for the food blog! We are loving it so far, and are doing an amazing giveaway. It ends tomorrow, 5/27, so enter if you haven't yet! We also just did a bonfire food series, and I did these Chocolate Orange BabyCakes: cake in an orange. Curious? You'll have to mosey on over to the blog to see what it's all about. Love these girls! (Missed you Anna and Kadee)
Then the next day, we went over to Jason and Geri's for his breaking-outta-the-hospital-slash-birthda-party. And got home at 2:24. AM. Then packed and caught flights out to Utah the next morning.
Last time I did that, I was single, had to get up at 5:15 for work the next morning, and didn't even bat an eye. Let's just say we're not young and single anymore......
