Happy Easters!

I totally failed last week as a mother for easter.
There were no cute little pictures of Parker with bunny ears or any pastel Sunday outfits with eggs sitting tenderly in a nearby easter basket...nothing I tell you.
It's whatever, I'm over it.
But don't you worry, I have tons more.
Your Parker-tooth shall be satisfied (YESSSSS).
Little man is teething...still....that third one on the bottom popped up and we can see one on top making it's grand entrance. He's kinda figured out how to hold a sippy cup and gnaw on the mouthpiece, which lets out a little water, but he doesn't really suck on it. Whenever he's done eating, he starts swatting at the bottle and our hand to let us know.
Him just being weird, cute and funny
Our good friends, The Florences came home for a couple days while Tay interviewed out here. We went to Nick's in San Clemente. It's always so good to see you two, it's like we've never been apart! Hay I definitely started using Elmo in public and it's been a lifesaver more than once...halleluja!
The school had a little pizza fundraiser for our good friend, Jason. The people at their optometry school really are such sweet people. They love on all of our little bebes, they have even babysat a couple of them, and their support for their buddy Jason has been incredible. People really are good, ya know?
 Perusing Target...ya know...like a balla...
One morning I was taking a couple pics of P when he woke up because he was extra cute that morning...finally he started wimpering, "mom! pick me up already!!"

This last weekend we left town and skimped down to Carlsbad for my cousin's wedding. On our way down we stopped in Mission Viejo to check out the mall there (since gas is $4.25/gallon), mostly for Zara kids! I was thoroughly dissapointed. They had like 3 things for baby boys and they weren't even cute. AAAAND I had plans to check out CrewCuts (J. Crew's baby line) but realized I totally forgot after we left. THEN we went to the Rainbow Shack (Rainbow sandals outlet) and they had closed at 5 (it was 5:15).
 I curse you retail gods!!!
But the reason we went down there still delivered. It's so nice getting out of Fullerton and escaping the daily grind to be with a bunch of family that gets the crazy part of your life and knows you in a way nobody else does.
A little drool never hurt anyone, right??
We got to see my grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, the bride was a beaut, the groom was as happy as could be, and everybody else was stressed HA! OK that's not entirely true, but we all know how weddings go...
The next day was Easters. I had to take P out before the sacrament and was out there the whole time (it's during his naptime), then I was in primary for the last two hours. So unfortunately I got a very basic Easter lesson :) But the kids never disappoint! During sharing time, one of my kids (5-yo) turned to me and said, "Boys have pee-pees, girls don't! Soooo yooooou don't have one."
Then later during my lesson, we were talking about how the angel came and moved the big huge stone out of the way of Jesus' tomb, and that angels can do anything they want because they're so powerful...then one of my girls quickly exclaimed, "Yeah! Like the monkeybars!"
Yes, like the monkeybars... :)
We got together with all of the optometry students here for a little Easter potluck out in the BBQ area of our apartment complex. Weather was gorgeous, food was delish, friends were perfect.
Love our little family away from family.
I made this BOMB coconut strawberry cake with coconut cream cheese frosting.
Man, I could really go for a strawberry coconut party in my mouth right now...
My favorite part of getting ready for bed is sneaking into the little one's room at night, shining our phones on his face, usually dislodging his head out of the corner of the crib and back into the middle, covering him with his favorite blanket that he loves the grab and snuggle into his face when he's laying down for a nap or bedtime, and say goodnight again. Even if it's been a frustrating day with him, peeking in on him always seems to erase everything!
So I've had to stop running for now. I missed my 10k last week and won't be able to do the half marathon I'd signed up for in June. I am absolutely heartbroken. Recently Steve's started running and the other day I asked about his run. He was telling me his time/pace and the route he took...it was a route I used to run a lot and tears came to my eyes and I just let it all out! Totally caught me off guard! I really think my hip joint is pretty messed up. I haven't run for 3 1/2 weeks now, and my joint wasn't hurting as much as a result...But then last night I tripped over a toy and had to land abruptly on that leg and now it hurts all over again. I never thought I'd love running as much as I do! I miss being able to zone out and cruise down the road. I miss seeing the progress. I miss how good it feels to stretch when you're done. I miss feeling strong and healthy.
I'm planning on going to an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine doc, I'm just working on getting insurance right now...just the office visit cash pay is $300. We have Medi-Cal (California's Medicaid) but our share-of-cost is super high because I'm working. Genius California, encourage those working to work less, and those not working to not get a job so they can continue to get free benefits.
Until then, I need to get on my bike...first I need to find some good routes!
Steve's doing really well in school, spending more time in the clinic with patients doing hands-on stuff and loving it! He's taken up green smoothies (kale, spinach, chard with a little fruit and protein powder), and a 1400 or 1500 calorie diet a day with tons of veggies, some protein, some fruit, and minimal whole-grain oatmeal, rice, bread or pasta. This mantra has taken over him and he's losing weight (not like he needed to!) and beefing up. Just for fun I guess! I'll take it :)
It's been a little more of a challenge to plan dinners, but doable. More power to him.

  1. I made that cake too and it's awesome! Running is an addicting thing, but throws my body off too. I tried training for races twice before we moved out here and when my body, back or knees would freak out, I'd wonder why. I found out I had crushed a vertebrae from an injury about 15 yrs ago, lesson learned. Then I had to keep building up more muscle than I thought I would to keep my knees from hurting. I finally went to an orthopedic surgeon this yr and he told me I have osteoarthritis in my knees. Crazy for someone my age but I was so relieved he didn't tell me to stop running. I wish you luck in figuring out what's going on. Looks like school and Cali are fun.
