A Fortunately Avoided Bloody Massecre

Toady I was about an hour late getting home for one of the best reasons ever!!! About 5 minutes before the end of our shift, one of our patient's hearts decided to go into a fatal rhythm. Nurses are sprinting down the hallway, medications are flying through the air into hands to be pushed through IV lines, people are yelling for things to be brought into the room. It's an emergent scene on ER or Grey's Anatomy...an adrenaline junkie's dream :)
He had had open-heart surgery a day or two prior, consequently the surgeon decided he might have to crack his chest open right there in the room. THIS IS BAD. This means the patient wasn't stable enough for a ride down to the OR where everything is sterile and peopl
e are actually meant to have their chests gaping open for all the world to see.
So as we're all hooking IV lines to medications, shocking the patient so he convulses in the bed (yes, like in the movies), I'm thinking to myself, "YES! This is it! I get to help with the bloodiest massecre this room has seen YET! WOO-HOO!!!!" And of course at the same time praying for him, his family, and that his heart will start to behave itself and do what we want it to do.
I've seen open-heart surgery before, but not emergently. This is what I would have seen:
(well, this is a valve repair, but something similar.....) Much to my disappointment (the non-medically minded and more humane, compassionate side of me was also thankful and pleased), we ended up not needing to crack his chest. So I left  :(

On a brighter note, Steve and I have found some pretty rad biking trails over the last few days that have been pretty amazing! Yay for biking!
Utah has...um...blessed us with a plethora of rain during this summer June month that is supposed to be warm and sunny. Does that stop us from tearing up the trails you ask? No ma'am!!!
The other night we did one of our classic trails, took a different route downhill with mud puddles the size of Texas....while it was raining....going so fast that Steve was laughing about how occasionally he would hear my squeals and wonder if I was getting hurled over the front of my handlebars or not :)
Best. Feeling. Ever.
Lastly, WE'RE GOING TO MOAB TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!
Would you like to know how I know? Because my little
Steve is in the same place he has
been the last few days....currently sprawled across
our living room floor hunched over an old
ratty towel littered with his bike, bike parts, bike
things, bike components, you get the picture.
Needless to say, we're super excited to tackle the
legendary climbing, biking, hiking, cliff jumping, and camping
our favorite place in the world has to offer with
about 200 of our closest friends! After all, this is
where the magic started. Awwwww ♥
Yay Moab.
